Kopytek Inc. Purchases Morgana DigiFold 5000P Creaser Folder

Published: Dec 3rd, 2008

Dec. 3, 2008: ST. LOUIS, MO – Kopytek, Inc. of St. Louis County, Mo., has announced the addition of a Morgana DigiFold 5000P Creaser Folder to expand its creasing capabilities for digitally printed materials and to minimize the cracking that occurs when digitally printed materials are folded, thus enhancing overall quality.

A major problem with pieces printed digitally is their tendency to crack when the material is folded. One way to solve this problem is to crease the paper before folding. The Morgana DigiFold 5000P not only creases the piece, but folds it in one compact machine. This new way of folding minimizes marking or scratching.

“Due to the large increase in digitally printed materials, it was important that Kopytek find a machine that could increase our creasing capability,” said John Peterson, Kopytek CEO. “Print finishing, today more than ever before, is about speed and cost. Having the capability to turn a job around within the time given is dependant on equipment and operators. The Morgana 5000P allows us to crease and fold an additional 50,000 sheets per shift, with up to 9 creases.”

The DigiFold is a fast, easy-to-use mobile finishing centre that creases and folds digital output, laminated stocks or conventionally-printed, heavy, cross-grained stocks. Additionally, the Morgana DigiFold 5000P allows for a larger sheet size than what Kopytek currently creases, up to 15-by-28-inch sheets.

The Morgana DigiFold 5000P is expected to be installed in Kopytek’s new 300,000 cubic foot headquarters and distribution center in Olivette in February. But the placement of the equipment was planned out years in advance. When designing the new $2.4 million headquarters, at 9595 Dielman Rock Industrial Court, Peterson designed spaces for his existing equipment and spaces for equipment he would need in the next five years. The infrastructure and wiring of the new building cost thousands more than it would have normally, but Peterson said for every $1 he spent in upfront infrastructure costs, he saved $3 to $4 in retrofit costs if he wanted to change the building later.
